The three-door MINI 60 Years Edition which also celebrates the fact that the MINI is 60 this year!
The 10 millionth MINI has rolled off the production line – a three-door MINI 60 Years Edition which also celebrates the fact that the MINI is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year as well.
The celebratory model took pride of place at an event in Oxford at the company’s production facility, where MINI huddled together 60 owners of 60 cars, one from every year the iconic car was produced.
The 10 millionth MINI is painted British Green, with black bonnet stripes, LED spotlights and a set of exclusive 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels. It also boasts a 190bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine found in the Cooper S.
The first ever Mini to be built joined the celebratory model at the Oxford plant and is known as 621 AOK. It was designed by Alec Issigonis and built in 1959 at the Oxford site where the Mini continued to be produced right up until 1968 when it relocated to Longbridge in the West Midlands.
The MINI brand was obtained by BMW in 1994, who’ve since invested more than £2 billion into manufacturing sites here in the UK. Production from the Oxford plant has increased from 300 cars per day in 2001 to around 1,000 today. According to MINI, a new model rolls off the production line every 67 seconds.
The celebratory 10 millionth model is set to join BMW’s heritage fleet and will be used for media engagements and brand events. There’s no indication as yet as to whether the three-door MINI 60 Years Edition will be sold in the future.
