Short, Simple, Clear Car Leasing

There’s confusion amongst many of our lease customers about what kind of modifications they can make to their lease vehicle once it’s in their possession. Maybe you would like to fit a tow bar so that you can use a trailer or pull a caravan, or would like to add your company decals to advertise your business but you’re unsure as to whether this is allowed?

To make it clearer to our customers as to what type of modifications are permitted with your lease vehicle, here’s a simple explanation as to the rules that apply to customising or modifying your lease car or van when leasing with Clear Car Leasing.

Before you make any kind of changes to your lease vehicle, you should contact us first to discuss them with us so that permission can be granted by the manufacturer and the finance provider, depending on what type of modification is required.

However, if you know when applying to lease a vehicle with us that a tow bar is one of your requirements, it might be advisable to inform us at the point of order.

Please be aware that any modification you make to your lease vehicle is done so at your own risk and could invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty.

Any type of modification carried out on your lease car or van must be removed without causing damage to the vehicle at the end of your contract.

Some of the modifications that are generally accepted as okay to carry out on your lease vehicle are:

Tow Bar – permission is usually granted by your finance provider to add a tow bar to your lease vehicle so that you can pull a trailer or caravan.

Roof Racks and Racking – bars fitted to the roof or back of a vehicle to allow for the carrying of roof boxes, bicycles, etc..

Black Box – used a lot by new young drivers and installed by their insurance company. Can be fitted to your lease car once permission is granted by your finance provider.

Dashboard Camera – can be installed in your lease vehicle but only after permission has been granted by your finance provider and must be removed at the end of your contract.

Vehicle Tracker – used to help recover the vehicle if stolen and subject to permission from your finance provider but generally allowed.

Vehicle Wrap – used by companies to show off the company decals to advertise their business. These must be removed without causing any damage to the lease car or van before the vehicle is collected.

Personalised Number Plate – can be fitted to your lease car but must be removed at the end of your contract. As with a tow bar, mentioning it at point of order is advisable.
