Apparently in Swansea! Where 69% of drivers have been affected by rage on the road


Swansea is apparently the UK’s road rage capital – that’s according to research carried out by MoneySuperMarket, who discovered that 69% of drivers in the city of Wales had in some way been affected by rage on the road.

The survey also found that more than half of British drivers (53%) have been the victim of aggression on the roads.

Four in five (80%) said they’d been sworn at, a third (34%) said they’d been intimated by another driver or even followed, whilst rather shockingly, 15% said they’d been threatened with violence.

Despite Swansea being named as the road rage capital of Britain, there are some parts of Wales that are the total opposite, as Aberystwyth has the lowest instances of road rage – ‘only’ 29% of drivers said they’d experienced some sort of aggression whilst on the roads.

The comparison website talked to 2,000 motorists from across the UK and discovered that tailgating is one of their biggest gripes on the road, followed by drivers who fail to indicate, those who continue to use a mobile phone despite it being illegal and people in vehicles who throw litter out of the window.

The age group most likely to be involved in some form of road rage, either as the one causing it or merely a victim, are those aged 18 to 25, with a whopping 65% saying they’d been in some way involved in such an incident, whereas in comparison less than half of those aged 55 or over had been on the receiving end of bad blood behind the wheel.

“Road rage appears to be a growing concern on our roads, with over half the nation feeling its effects in some form,” said Tom Flack, editor-in-chief at MoneySuperMarket.

Mr Flack did go on to say that whilst we can all at times get a little stressed or even angry whilst driving, things can turn into something more serious very quickly, with acts of violence and physical threats potentially leading to an increased risk of road accidents.
