What if I want to have a tow bar fitted to my lease car, is this allowed?
A lease car may not be yours to own but that doesn’t stop you from being able to make modifications such as fitting a tow bar, or even adding a personalised car registration plate if you so desire.
According to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), more than £2billion has been raised in tax revenue from the sale of reg plates at auctions in the UK over the past 25 years, confirming our love of making statements.
We’re well known in Britain for our love of the personalised number plate, giving us the freedom to be able to express a little bit of ourselves on the front and back of our chosen vehicle.
It’s believed around 4% of motorists in the UK have gone down the personalised registration plate route but what about those who lease a car.. are they allowed to add one to their leased vehicle and join in the fun too?
Good news car leasers! Yes, you can add a personalised plate to your lease car so long as you receive permission at the beginning of your lease contract.
Once you have taken delivery of your brand new car you can arrange for the personalised number plate to be fitted to your vehicle but please note that an administration fee for this service might apply.
At the end of your lease agreement, the plates must be removed from the vehicle before it’s collected and returned.
And if you would like to make any modifications to your lease car such as having a tow bar fitted, you can request this when you order your brand new lease car.
Only certain modifications that are reversible are permitted and will have to be removed without causing any damage to the lease car when your contract comes to an end.
