Keep Those Presents and Food & Drink Out Of Sight In Your Car!

‘Tis the season to be jolly’.. and that’s true, as Christmas is only a month away but it’s also the time when we should be remaining vigilant and giving some thought to how we shop and what we do with our shopping once we return back to our car and home.

At this time of the year, there’s even more of an opportunity for thieves to take advantage as we travel from shop to shop, filling up our cars with presents, luxurious food and expensive bottles of drink without even thinking of the consequences of doing so.

Leaving bags full of presents on show in your car, or even a boot packed with food and drink that can be seen through the back window, could tempt opportunist thieves who might be prepared to break into your vehicle to grab a handful of your goodies before running off down the street.

The best advice whilst shopping over the next four weeks, is when parking up, make sure the area is busy, well lit and that you lock all your doors, windows and boot. Even consider parking where you know there’s CCTV in operation. Keep all purchases covered and out of sight from prying eyes, preferably in the boot and not on the back seat and never leave really expensive purchases in the car whilst you continue shopping – it’s better to get them straight home!

Once you get home with your Christmas purchases, make sure you don’t leave items unattended in the car as you open the front door to your home – you never know who might be watching. An opportunist thief could swipe items from your opened car as you go forwards and backwards with your Christmas gifts, food and drink, so it’s always best to lock your vehicle in-between or ask for help from a family member.

Never leave presents inside your car overnight just because you don’t want to spoil the surprise – it’s safer to secretly bring them inside and to find a good hiding place, rather than risk them being stolen and spoiling the surprise altogether!
