The free charging points have been offered to around 4,000 hotel and B&B owners
Free EV charging points have been offered to around 4,000 UK hotel and B&B owners as part of a key partnership between the AA and Chargemaster.
Based in Luton, the UK’s biggest supplier of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles will work with any hotel or B&B that’s AA-inspected and wishes to take up the offer of a free charging point. The best ones for them will be installed based on their specific location, as rapid chargers will suit establishments positioned on busy routes, whilst destination chargers will be perfect for visitors wanting to charge overnight.
The first UK establishment to take up the offer is the Sandford Springs Hotel in Hampshire. Guests and visitors now have access to a 50kW rapid charger, available to use by any EV drivers via the Polar network.
“Alongside our automotive heritage, the AA has been involved in the hospitality industry since 1908. We know that when EV drivers are looking for hotels, they will actively seek out those with charging points,” said Edmund King OBE, president of the AA.
Chargemaster, who operate Polar, are now part of BP and will be renamed BP Chargemaster as part of the new deal. Polar is the largest EV charging network in the UK and now has over 6,500 public charging points scattered across the country.
“We believe that within the next five years, all hotels will offer EV charging, just like they provide wifi today. Our offer for AA hotels is a great opportunity for hotel owners and operators to get a competitive advantage with a facility that could attract hundreds of thousands of customers in the coming years,” said David Martell, chief executive of Chargemaster.
