Here at Clear Car Leasing, we make the process simple and hassle-free for all our customers

The following guide will answer that commonly asked question – what happens and how does it all work when the time arrives for handing back my lease car?

Towards the end of your lease contract, the car will have to be returned and more than likely you’ll want to start a new lease agreement straight away.

Our advice is to start thinking about your next car around three months before your existing lease contract comes to an end, giving you plenty of time to find your next brand new lease car and for any paperwork to be organised, ready for when the current lease has expired and the new car is ready for delivery.

What happens when your lease contract comes to an end?

Around six weeks before your contract is due to end, you’ll be sent a reminder to inform you that your car lease agreement is finishing soon and the vehicle will need to be returned.

At the end of your lease contract, the car will be inspected to ensure it’s being returned in a satisfactory condition and no damage has been caused that isn’t covered under the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear Guide, which we recommend our customer’s refer to when the time comes for sending the car back.

The inspection generally occurs on the same day the car is due for collection and a suitable date will be arranged between both parties.

The following must be returned along with the car on the day the vehicle is collected; the manufacturer’s service book, driver handbook and two sets of keys.

If any damage is found that doesn’t comply with the Fair Wear and Tear guidelines, or the spare keys have been lost for example, charges will be incurred by yourself.

Also, if you go over the agreed annual mileage included in your lease agreement, each extra mile will be added together and an excess mileage charge will have to be paid at the end of the contract.

Please don’t leave yourself without a motor – act early to avoid being left without a new lease car, so as one contract comes to an end, a new one begins with another brand new car of your choice.
