Survey quizzed motorists about their motorway experiences and why they liked or disliked them
It might comes as no surprise, but the M25 has been named by motorists in the UK as their least liked motorway but coming a close second was the M6, putting a spanner in the works for those about to cry out about a north-south divide.
The survey was carried out by InsureTheGap.com and involved asking 2,000 motorists about their experiences on motorways and why they liked or disliked them.
And according to the survey, the main reason why drivers chose the M25 as their least liked was because of a lack of speed cameras – really?
This reason for many motorists would be why they liked a particular motorway but not those using the M25, despite the fact that you’d struggle to be able to drive fast enough for a camera to be triggered.
Confused signage, too much debris on the road, poor lighting and dangerous junctions were other reasons given for disliking the London Orbital.
As for the M6, reasons similar to those given for disliking the M25 were used, as well as drivers feeling unsafe and unhappy with the lack of service stations.
At the opposite end of the scale however, the A66 from Grangetown to Workington is much liked by drivers (even if only a small area of the A66 can be classed as a proper motorway).
Drivers praised the A66 for its lack of rubbish on the road, its service stations, less traffic and good street lighting. Coming in second was the M40 for exactly the same reasons.
