Rumours by Fleetwood Mac voted favourite album for drivers to listen to on the move

We all love music and thankfully there’s plenty for us to choose from but what is the best album to listen to when driving?

To find out and to celebrate the first ever National Album Day (October 13), the AA carried out a survey to discover what motorists in the UK like to while away the hours listening to on a car journey.

The survey managed to get a response from 20,650 people who love nothing more than to stick on their favourite album whilst on the move and bang away on the steering wheel or take part in a spot of head-nod dancing!

The album that came out on top was Rumours by Fleetwood Mac – if you’re a big fan of F1 you’ll know that the TV coverage theme tune comes from this album.

What's your favourite album to drive to?

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac voted best driving album – “The Chain” has been the F1 TV coverage theme tune since 1978

Those taking part in the survey were asked to choose which album they would most likely listen to if they were travelling alone in the car and Rumours came out the winner.

The album was released in 1977 and over 40 million copies have been sold so far, making it one of the best selling albums of all time. The album of course features “The Chain”, made famous by F1 and other well known tracks associated with the British-American rock band including “You Make Loving Fun”, “I Don’t Want To Know”, “Go Your Own Way” and “Don’t Stop”.

The Chain has been used as the theme tune for Formula One since 1978 when it was first covered by the BBC and continues to be used today by Channel 4 after buying the rights to show the sport on TV back in 2016.

The top 10 albums as voted for by a 20k strong people poll carried out by the AA consists of a mixture of old and new within the music industry and features one of the biggest bands in the world coming in behind Fleetwood Mac to take second place.
